Joe Burgett
I’m not a career politician, just a neighbor who cares deeply about our community and wants to make a difference. I started out as a general contractor and later became a professor at Clemson University, where I teach construction science and management. Along the way, I’ve worked with contractors, engineers, the SCDOT, and local and state agencies to make our projects more efficient, more cost-effective, and more accountable to taxpayers. I pride myself on using data and technology to solve real problems. My career has always been about building smarter systems and helping people tackle challenges with creativity and innovation. That’s exactly the approach that is needed in Columbia.
I’m considering running for three big reasons. First, I believe our politics are broken. Too many leaders put party over people and focus on fighting each other instead of fixing problems. We deserve a government that works for us, not for headlines. Second, I want to help the SCDOT deliver better roads and bridges. I’ve been under those bridges with our engineers and inspectors, and I’ve seen firsthand how technology can cut costs, improve safety, and give South Carolinians the infrastructure we deserve. Third, as a foster dad for ten years, I’ve seen firsthand how deeply our Department of Social Services is struggling. South Carolina’s children deserve safety, stability, and a system that truly supports families—and we can do better. Our community deserves it!
Our political leaders need to start putting people before politics and results before rhetoric. Together, we can build a South Carolina that works—not left, not right, but FORWARD!
